JDS Cadet Coaching & Report

The substituted JDS Coaching session conducted by Max Taylor on March 1st was a great success and saw our Squad members primed and ready for the States where we posted some great results. Nearly all of our boats scored a top ten placing at some stage of the regatta and many showed big gains in performance since the Port Lincoln Nationals.

JDS placings at the States (36 boats raced) were: Marcus and Angus 5th, Jessica and Jack 6th, Anton and Julian 7th , Alice and Grace 8th, Jacob and Josh 20th, Charlie and Harry 21st, Jarad and Will 22nd, Bonnie and Molly 23rd and Rebecca and Ashley 25th.

A special mention should be made of Anton and Julian’s cleverly crafted all the way win in Heat 5. You had some of us a bit worried when you disappeared so far up the course in the pre-start but now we know why!

If you will all forgive a little parental indulgence I was thrilled to see Bonnie and Molly sail so well for a fine tenth place in the final challenging race in their first regatta together and Molly’s very first regatta ever.

Well done to all in our JDS; you sailed exceptionally well and were a credit to Sandringham Yacht Club.

Congratulations too to SYC’s Issy and Ben on a fine 4th overall and commiserations on having a certain massive heat win snatched from their grasp by a drifting race marker buoy.

Our final JDS Coaching session for the season is scheduled for Sunday 22nd March at 9:00am.

Happy sailing,
Chris Furey
