Joel Aulich and Jack Furey have success! - 11th April 2008

SYC members Joel Aulich Jack Furey competed in the Yachting Victoria 2008 Youth & Junior Championships at Chelsea Yacht Club last weekend. They raced their International Cadet “Odyssey” in Division 4, the Junior 2-Hander division and won their event comfortably. Six races were sailed with one allowed to be discarded. They won all five of the races they counted and in doing so easily beat the current Victorian State Champion in their International Cadet class. They were delighted to be the top performing (ie lowest points scored) yacht in the entire regatta of well over 100 boats. They showed pleasing improvement following the preceding weekend’s Coaching Clinic at SYC with Tasmanian Coach and former World International Cadet Champion, Paul Burnell.

Following the racing, Joel and Jack were presented with their trophies by current and former (2004) Olympic Sailor, Sarah Blanck. To view the Yachting Victoria report please click here.

They are progressing nicely towards their goal of representing Australia (and SYC) and performing well at the 2008 International Cadet World Championships in Medemblik, The Netherlands, in July / August.
