Powerboat evening to Anchorage Restaurant - 10th April 2008

The Powerboat Sub committee night out at the Anchorage Restaurant. 5th April.
A total of 16 boats ventured over to The Anchorage marina during the late Saturday afternoon with sea breezes. The harbormaster had allocated pens for all the big Riviera’s and other powerboats as well as two larger sail boats.
Gill and Bill Stubbs were appointed welcoming ambassadors’ as they handed out individual show bags to the various skippers. A special thank you to them for their kind gesture and helping out with the pen allocations.
A total of 44 people from the Sandringham Yacht Club made their way up to the dock after looking forward to this outing for sometime.
At 7pm sharp after a few drinks on the promenade deck and watching the city lights come alive we where all entertained by The Fun Magic Guy. Terry McSweeney had all our guests spell bound with a few tricks literally up his sleeve as he mingled one on one amongst the group. Mouths still open from Terry’s tricks it was time to move into the restaurant and peruse the semi ‘a la carte’ menu. Thanks to The Anchorage Restaurant for catering to our large group.
With plenty of refreshments and entrée’s served, the night was still young.
Terry McSweeney took over for about 1 hour and thrilled our group including helpers Sue Boon, Disappearing egg trick. (Sue will never boil an egg again).
Next up was Foxy, well less said the better as we all know loud is not the issue it’s how loud can he go. Terry finally got the better of him as the mouth was open but nothing coming out. Still confused the next day at the breakfast party all we could hear from Foxy was, “howddedothat”. He turned a three card trick into a six a six a six… Young Matthew Zisos helped our magician read the phone book for an unbelievable finale. Well done to all the helpers. Ralph White admitted the magic was brilliant but couldn’t remember it.
The whole idea of the night was to meet new people and it was nice to see quite a few new faces. Speaking of faces it was great our rear Commodore Steve Richards and his wife Teryle to join in after sailing over on Fandango. Steve said later and I quote:” I thought it was extremely well organized and quite novel with the inclusion of an entertainer”. Also great to see Club Captain of Recreation Boating Steve Gall and his wife Merryl join in after attending an earlier family function. He said” A great night, a pleasure to see different parts of the club enjoy and interact together”.
The party went well into the night as we did not have to drive home. Tommy Raft’s boat ‘Innocent Lady’ seemed to become the party boat as it was the biggest and closest to the restaurant. I am not sure if there were any innocent ladies left because it was like cats to a fridge door at times. It seemed that turning the clock back gave a few people a chance for a couple more beers. I am told 4am was the final shut down.
Sunday morning was to die for, without a breath of wind the sun rose just like our members. The bloody mary bar started between the Stubbs ‘Gillian’ and Whites ‘HS JD’ at about 8.30 am. It was not long before the crew from ‘Topez 11’, ‘Malahini’ and ‘Snapper 1’ joined in. My partner Ronnie not only balanced the books from the night before but served up the first lot of bacon and eggs for breakfast.
Highlights from the evening were the meet and greet from other Sandy members, oh and maybe the magician. I will leave it up to our guests to decide. Do we do it again next year? It would be great to receive your feedback! To do so please click here.
