Sail Past Instructions for SYC Opening Day 2008 - 4th October 2008 

Dear Skippers,

For safe and orderly procession; please be advised of the Sail Past Instructions below to indicate your marshalling area for Opening Day commencing at 1430hrs.


SAIL-PAST INSTRUCTIONS 2008

Flags to be flown from the Start Tower

Red South Wind. The marshalling area is to seaward of the Anonyma Pile.
Green North Wind. The marshalling area is to seaward and north of buoy SYC 3.
Coded flag N (blue and white check) – Sail-past cancelled.


Marshalling
Three (3) inflatable buoys will be laid as marshalling points.
The Orange Inflatable mark is for all OTB dinghies and will be the approach mark for all other participants The Yellow Inflatable Mark is for Division 2 and Division 3 boats and the Orange Inflatable mark with a black band is for Division 0, Division 1 and Recreational boats.

Official Vessel
Mandalay will be anchored approximately 200 meters to seaward of buoy SYC 4.

Sail-past Order – Lead Boats (and the large flags they will be flying)

Off the Beach Endeavour (no flag)
(Orange buoy will now be clear, to be used as approach for other boats)
John Middleton will lead the Youth Development Squad in the Beneteau's

Other divisions will sail "near" the Orange buoy and thence past Official Vessel.

Division 0 Goldfinger (SM8880) Black with "0"
Division 1 Outrageous (SM 45) Blue with "1"
Orange buoy with black band is now clear for rec boats to marshal.
Division 2 Anna (SM 111) Orange with "2"
Division 3 Delphis (SM 89) white with "3"
Recreational Boats Gillian (DS600) Chequemate (SM3540) Yellow with "R"

Sail past Procedure
After the Official Vessel is on station, the Course Marshall will advise, via VHF Ch73, the various groups to commence the sail past at approximately 1430 hours. Each group is to wait its turn to proceed as advised by the Course Marshall. Each group’s lead boat shall display a flag as listed above.

Boats shall leave their marshalling area, forming a single line behind their lead boat approximately a boat length apart, heading first to the vicinity of the Orange buoy, and then proceed downwind towards the Official Vessel. Pass on the seaward side of the Official Vessel and as close as practical, giving three cheers for the Commodore.
