BOAT PROFILE: KLINGER SM 2070
Boat Owner: Peter Bolton
Regular Crew: Ted Kaine
Bob Jeavons
Boat Type: Farr 27
The crew of KLINGER really is a remarkable group. They have been sailing together since 1957. All are now in their eighties and still sail Wednesday Wonders races and the occasional Sunday Sailor race. The group no longer sail Saturday races as all now think they have outgrown the bow position required for spinnakers.
The group moved from Squadron in 1956 to sail in the Yvonne catamarans which were popular at SYC at that time. Peter had started sailing when he was 10 in the Sea Scouts and has been sailing ever since.
Peter has owned KLINGER for the last 8 years and previously owned PIPPA (also a Wednesday Wonder regular).
The Farr 27 was the first keelboat design of Bruce Farr and Klinger was built in New Zealand 37 years ago. She also has quite a remarkable record. She is the smallest boat to have raced in the Sydney to Hobart. In 1975 she was lengthened a foot by putting a planning board on the back which gave her the requisite 27 foot length need to compete in the Sydney to Hobart.
Klinger is still sailed well and is currently running 16th out of 39 entrants in Wednesday Wonders.
We will be profiling a SYC boat on the web each week. If you would like your boat to be featured please ring Kate Mitchell on 0417 128 963 .
A copy of each profile will be held under the membership page of the web site.
