For the Dinghy sailor SYC has a well established and exciting program of sailing activities for those wishing to launch ‘Off the Beach’. The Club ‘supports’ a number of endorsed classes which include:
- International Optimist
- International Cadet
- 420
- 29er
- Contender
- Tasar
- 14’ skiff
- Lasers
The Off the Beach program includes coaching for junior and youth classes, starting with the C Fleet programs for beginners. Junior sailors can become an SYC member, following the completion of a Tackers 1 sailing course run by the Club Marine SYC Boating Academy.
Racing and social activities are conducted from October to May each year and include:
- Regular Sunday race series
- Wednesday Twilight series (daylight saving period)
- Annual regatta at Metung (Easter)
- Junior sleepover
- Annual Presentation night
- Participation in external regattas and training programs.
Involvement and participation in Off the Beach sailing provides fun and an opportunity for all members of the family to become involved. Roles include:
- Assisting running races and manning safety craft
- Helping in the canteen
- Assisting with rigging and de-rigging
- Assisting with Social activities
Boat Storage
The OTB Sailing Centre offers storage facilities for registered boats (refer Storage Policy ).
Canteen
The Canteen operates on all race days and is open before and after racing. If your child participates in C Fleet activities then you will be expected to assist in the Canteen on one or two days during the season. There may be some days when C Fleet is training and there is no aggregate race scheduled. On these days the Canteen may not be open. However, food is available from the SYC Ken King Centre.
Parking
Parking at SYC is restricted to SYC Senior members. Please ensure that you do not park in the yard. As soon as your boat is dropped off at the OTBSC grass area please remove all cars. Parking is available in Jetty Road. Be aware that parking in the Jetty Road area is ticket parking – make sure that you have plenty of change.
