C Fleet

What is C-Fleet?

C-Fleet is the entry level Off The Beach (OTB) program for young sailors 7 -14 years, in transition from sailing school to buying their first boat.

The safe harbour of Sandringham Yacht Club provides young sailors the opportunity to extend their sailing experience and build confidence on the water. It’s a great way to meet new friends, practice sailing techniques and to develop an understanding of basic racing rules.

After completing the C-Fleet program, we support graduate sailors to either gain a crewing position or to buy and race their own dinghy. There is also the option of leasing one of the club’s boats for a season.

Did you know that the C-Fleet program is FREE!

How does it work?

The C-Fleet program runs over 15 sessions from October through to May.

The program is coached by Sandringham Yacht Club’s professional club coach. Training is tailored to meet the individual learning needs of the sailors, and encourages a life long love of the sport.

C-Fleet builds on practical sailing skills introduced from Tackers.  Much of the C-Fleet program involves improving boat handling skills while participating in fun on water games and activities. This is balanced with an introduction to racing and racing rules for those that are ready. Depending on your experience, you’ll be in bronze, silver or gold group to ensure we offer you the best opportunities to refine techniques and gain experience.

Sandringham Yacht Club values quality coaching programs for junior sailors to develop and mentor our future champions.

What experience do I need to have?

To participate in C-Fleet you need to have completed the sequential Tackers program and become a Junior Member of Sandringham Yacht Club.

If you have participated in a Tackers course with the Club Marine SYC Boating Academy – the Junior membership is free!

Parents are welcome to be involved

We actively encourage parents to assist in all aspects of the C-Fleet program. Some parents enjoy supervisory roles or assisting in the canteen. Others choose to observe the training on the Club’s committee boat to get up close to the action.
