Day Membership

In March 2006 a Day Membership was endorsed by the members and subsequently has been written into the Club’s Constitution. (Section 7B)

SYC  introduced the day pass in order to enable skippers and crew to meet their Racing Rules of Sailing obligations, in particular Rules 46 and 55, and also to ensure compliance with Liquor Licensing requirements.

  • The Day Pass is for sailing guests and crew who are not SYC members, but who currently enjoy the benefits and facilities of the Club.
  • It provides contact details for those day members should an emergency arise. The scheme will also allow crew persons to try sailing prior to committing to membership at SYC.    
  • The cost of Day passes purchased will be credited to your SYC membership application.
  • Dual Club Membership discounts apply (subject to conditions).
  • The scheme applies to the SYC keelboat program as listed in the SYC calendar.
  • Information required of the visitor to comply with Licensing Laws includes:
    • Name, Driver’s License No. (or similar photo identification) and Address
    • Club (if any)
    • Yacht to be sailed on (for ease of identification e.g. emergency situations).

Day Membership is $15.00 for the first six and $35.00 for the second six.  (Twilight Races the $15.00 fee is waived)  Day Membership is available from:

  • Guest Relations desk
    •  Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 – 20:00
    •  Sunday and Monday 09:00 – 17:00 
  • Boating & Marina Office 
    •  Monday to Friday 09:00 – 17:00
    • Saturday (race days only) 09:00 – 13:00

Day passes are required by any non SYC member for:

  • General Sailing Visitor
  • Kindred or Reciprocal Club Member.  This includes the following Victorian Clubs:

o     Blairgowrie YS
o     Hobsons Bay YC
o     Royal Brighton YC
o     Royal Geelong YC
o     Royal Melbourne YS
o     Mornington YC
o     Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club

To ensure compliance with the day pass scheme, spot audits will be held throughout the season together with Safety Equipment audits.
