Tuesday, 27th October 2020

CORRESPONDENCE TO SYC Members via email on Tuesday 27 October

Dear Members

At long last the news you have wanted to hear – from this Wednesday keelboat racing is back on 4 days per week and from this Sunday Off the Beach racing is back on. From Friday our Clubhouse is set to re-open 5 days per week, our Ken King Centre ramps up its offer 7 days per week and from Wednesday reception re-opens (10:00am-6:00pm). We are delighted and can’t wait to see you. For those of you who reside 25km + from SYC the news is not so good – you need to wait a bit longer, November 8 at this stage. In other news, the seven General Committee nominees were elected unopposed and you can tune into our 27th and last regular podcast! Here’s the detail;

1)   Racing & on-water events are back on at Sandy from tomorrow

  • Our Mercedes-Benz Brighton keelboat racing calendar is back 4 days per week from 28 October: Wednesday Wonders, Thursday Twilights, Saturday racing, Sunday Sailors, One Design and more…it’s all back on this week – for more info click here
  • Off the Beach racing is back on from this Sunday 1 November and from next week twilight racing is back on Friday  – for more info click here
  • Recreational Boating events on the horizon include our Annual Fishing Competition, a NavRally and a Cruise in Company – for more info click here

2)    Recreational Boating: if you reside within 25km of the Club, you can go fishing, go boating and go sailing whenever you want for as long as you want…whilst respecting all the Government regulations – read up on these here

3)    SYC Waterfront services: our marina, hardstands, off the beach and launch ramp are all open to authorised members. Our boat yard is open with all contractors onsite – more info here

4)    Food and Beverage / dining & take away options: SYC is now permitted to have seated dining – 20 members indoors and 50 outdoors. We will modify things as we go but this is how the first 2 weeks of trading will look like;

  • Ken King Centre: will remain open 7 days per week from 10:00am – 5:00pm but will now offer regular weekend and Thursday Twilight BBQs.
  • Members Bar: will open starting from Friday 30 October for lunch and dinner. Our indoors limit of 20 Members is to be split across two rooms (up to 10 in the Members Bar and 10 in the Members Lounge). We will trade Wednesday to Sunday with two indoor sittings for lunch (11.30am and 1:15pm) and two indoor sittings for dinner (5:30pm and 7:15pm). The Members Bar will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Northern Podium: will also open from this Friday for lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday but with just the one sitting. We ask that you book to be seated no later than 12:30pm for lunch and 6:30pm for dinner.  All outdoor dining will be served in take away mode in the event that the weather disrupts your meal.  The Northern Podium will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Take Away: the same menu in the Bar doubles as a take away menu so you can order and take a meal to your boat or to eat offsite. A Friday night pizza or fish & chips on the boat or a date night perhaps! Pop up to the HVR and order and be on your way.
  • Bookings: can be made from 2:00pm today (Tuesday 27 October) for indoor dining by ringing 9599 0999. For contract tracing we need everyone’s name and number. Whilst we don’t normally take outdoor bookings for the Northern Podium we will trial it and you can book on the day you wish to dine – that way you can assess the weather conditions as well. To ensure all Members can access the limited bookings, we won’t be accepting recurring bookings at this stage.

Please be patient: The regulations set out a very descriptive service model, so please be patient. Our menus will initially be limited whilst we find our feet and progress to more viable capacities. Things will look and feel different but what will be the same is the stunning views, the excellent facilities, great value food and beverage and friendly staff. Our service offering will continually be tweaked – view the offer including menus here

5)    AGM and General Committee succession:  At the upcoming Annual General Meeting on 24 November we will welcome in a new Commodore, Treasurer and three Club Captains. Congratulations to the following seven (7) members who were nominated for Officers of the Club and who have now been elected unopposed for the term of two years 2020-2022:

6)    Podcast #27: George, Deeksie and producer Ian Mac have recorded 27 podcasts over the last 6 months – interviewing 100+ members about Club life. What an extraordinary effort and another great example of club volunteerism – our thanks to the guys. This week they caught up with Vice Commodore Garry Anderson, Steve Aulich, the lovely Nina, Michael Butler and Blake Anderson from Doyle Sails for a chat. Tune into the podcast here

7)    Members First Focus: All of our service offerings above are for Members and Members guests only. We look forward to welcoming your guests but please assist us by ensuring your guests details are available and accurate upon bookings and if racing, they must have a sail pass  and for both safety and tracing purposes your crew must be fully signed on to the memberpoint app. If you are reading this and yet to renew your Membership, please do so prior to racing for compliance, tracing and insurance purposes.

Please remember when coming to SYC lets keep the virus at bay by doing all the right things. If you would like to read up on the Clubs CovidSafe Plan including our keelboat plan, then you can download it here.

Thank you for your patience and loyalty shown to SYC over the past seven months – we look forward to seeing you very, very soon.

Warm Regards & Stay Safe
